Huayhuash: (Trekking) It is rated among the top 10 of best trekkings in the world. Located in the Cordillera of Andes to the south of the Cordillera Blanca and with an extension of 30 km; The Cordillera Huayhuash is an incredible but compact group of huge ice towers surrounded by dozens of rivers, turquoise lagoons and with a great diversity of flora and fauna. Here is the impressive Yerupajá (6634 masl), the second highest mountain in Peru and the even more legendary, Siulá Grande (6336 masl), a famous mountain for being the setting for Joe Simpson's epic survival story, “Touching the Void”. We highly recommend the “classic circuit” (12 days), a unique trek for those who are looking for a beautiful challenging trek full of turquoise lakes.
Trekking / Hiking
Trekking and Hiking are oftentimes used as synonyms, but that’s incorrect! There are big differences between them.
Hiking involves a long energetic walk in a natural environment on established hiking trails or footpaths for a day or overnight. It’s done for pleasure, to reconnect with nature and calm the mind. Highly recommended to lower stress and to breathe fresh air. You should be able to walk for at least 3 hours.
Trekking involves a long vigorous hike in a wild natural environment for multiple days. It can be done off hiking trails and frequent navigation skills are required. It’s more challenging than hiking due to multiple days of hiking; it can be anywhere from 40km up to 24,00km and up. You must have good physical and mental condition to walk at least for 9 hours and multiple days in a row.
